Starting at Nursery
Thank you for applying to have your child’s name put onto our waiting list.
In order to ensure that our records hold your correct details, please complete the application form and email/post it to us. On receipt of this form we will send back email confirmation that your child’s name has been added to our waiting list and will notify you as soon as a place becomes available after your child’s 3rd birthday.
We allocate the majority of our places for the new session starting in August from the previous February onwards. It can take some time to work through the waiting list so places may be offered right up until the start of the new session.
Please notify us if your contact details change or you no longer require a place.
Also, for your information, please download our policies and practices leaflet.
I trust that this is satisfactory and look forward to receiving your application in the near future. In the meantime however, should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Many thanks.

Settling in
We aim to make your child’s settling- in process a smooth one.
We organise a Welcome Coffee Morning in August for families who will be starting at Nursery. This is an opportunity for new children and families to meet with staff and committee and explore the Nursery.
In August, children new to the Nursery have staggered start dates over a couple of weeks to ease the settling in process. Parents/carers are welcome to stay with their child until he/she is settled, or may leave a child for shorter periods initially to get him/her used to Nursery gradually. Staff are happy to advise on settling –in strategies for each child as appropriate.
When starting Nursery parents/carers and their child are given an All About Me sheet to take away and fill in and return to Nursery. This will help us get to know your child a bit better.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to Bruntsfield Community Nursery.
Painting, gluing, cooking, gardening and wet play all feature at Nursery, so no best clothes please, except for party time!
Clothes with easy fastenings allow the children to be as independent as possible when using the toilet. (We keep a supply of spare clothes in case of accidents)
Children should come to Nursery with outdoor clothes to match the weather; coat, jacket, sun hat.
Each child will have his/her own named peg with a bench below to make the children comfortable when changing their shoes.
What to Wear
Snack
We provide a daily healthy snack mid morning for the children. Our healthy snack includes a mixture of fruit and vegetables and a savoury snack. Water and milk are also provided.
The nursery follows “Setting the Table” food and nutrition guidelines from NHS Health Scotland.
We bake regularly and share these during snack – bread, scones, oatcakes. We also bake to celebrate birthdays, the birthday girl or boy will be encouraged to help bake with their friends and choose how to decorate it.
As we learn about different cultures and festivals we like to try different foods from around the world.
Please notify a member of staff of any good allergies or food intolerances for your child.
