Day to Day
Drop off and Pick Up
We would be very grateful if parents/carers could be prompt for drop-offs and pick-up. If you are delayed for any reason, please contact the Nursery to let staff and your child know.
The hours are:
Monday to Thursday
7:45am to 13:00pm
Friday
7:45am to 11:30am
It is important to notify staff in advance if anyone other than your child’s parent/carer is collecting him/her.
Absence and illness
If your child is going to be absent for any reason, please tell the nursery in advance or at the start of session as any unnotified absence will trigger the Nursery Attendance policy. The nursery phone number is (0131) 228 1526.
The Nursery Attendance policy requires the Nursery Manager or your child’s key worker to try to contact you by telephone after 10am via the Emergency Contact numbers you have provided.
The Nursery Attendance and other nursery policies may be read in full in the Documents and Policies section of the website.
If the Nursery is unable to establish a child’s whereabouts, despite their best endeavours, the Child Protection Policy will be implemented by the Nursery Manager, in line with City of Edinburgh Council practice.
Illness
Please keep children with any form of sickness, fever or diarrhoea away from Nursery for 48 hours after their last episode.
If in doubt, you may phone the Nursery for advice as staff have guidelines covering most infectious diseases.
Also, please inform staff in confidence of any infectious diseases or of the presence of head lice as soon as possible so that a general message can go out to parents advising them to be vigilant.
Behaviour
Bruntsfield Community Nursery aim to create a caring, sharing and secure environment to enable all children to flourish. By promoting good behaviour, valuing co-operation and a caring attitude the Nursery aims to help children develop a sense of responsibility and well being for themselves and others.
The staff encourage sharing and caring through positive reinforcement of behaviour. The staff act as positive role models demonstrating respect, responsibility, consideration and honesty.
The Behaviour Management Policy can be read in full in the Document and Policies section of the website.
In consulation with the children we have created Our Golden Rules for the Nursery.
We are going to try to:
-
Sit safely on the mat
-
Always walk in nursery
-
Wash your hands before eating and after using the toilet
-
Use scissors and sharp things safely
-
Use a tissue to wipe our noses
-
Listen carefully to instructions from grown-ups
-
Help to tidy up toys
-
Be Kind, share and take turns
Involvement of Parents and Carers
A special part of the ethos of our community Nursery is the involvement of parents and carers in the parent helper rota. This is a unique opportunity for parents and carers to work in partnership with staff in the care and education of your children. Staff value your support and commitment in all aspects of Nursery. The children clearly enjoy sharing their learning experiences with parents.
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to share their own skills and interests in Nursery.
