About Us

At Bruntsfield Community Nursery we aim to:

Encourage emotional, social, physical and intellectual development and to provide opportunities to become effective contributors and confident individuals through play.

Establish effective partnerships with parents and the local community by encouraging them to participate in nursery and join with staff, where possible, in furthering their children’s development.

Have a well managed nursery with good liaison between staff and committee and an ongoing programme of staff development and review.

Provide equal opportunities for children regardless of disability, gender, religious persuasion, racial origin or cultural and linguistic background to become responsible citizens.

Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing improvement through monitoring, self evaluation and continuing professional development.

Promote achievement, attainment and creativity to allow all children to become successful learners.

Committee

The Nursery is managed by a committee of parents who are responsible for the overall management including the employment of staff. The City Council don’t provide all of the required funding and so parents need to carry out fundraising and assist in activities such as shopping for snack food, doing the newsletter etc.

We also hope to ask for help at the Nursery on a rota basis – typically 1-2 times a term

This participation allows parents to share their child’s Nursery experience and form early friendships with other parents, which is one of the strengths of the Community Nursery ethos.

Our Partner

The nursery operates in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council to provide a high quality pre-school experience for children aged 3 to 5 years.

As a Community Nursery, we place great importance and reliance on the support and active involvement of parents.
